The Fortress of Radicofani
Here you are offered two circular routes.
One is a short walk along a trail which circles the fortress of Radicofani. This fortress was made famous by the ghibelline rebel Ghino di Tacco, who after being expelled from Siena made his base here an his exploits are told by Boccaccio in the Decameron and by Dante, in the VI canto of Purgatory.
The other leaves from Radicofani and heads towards Poggio l'Apparitoia going along part of the medieval highway the via Francigena to the ancient trading hamlet of Callemala, now called Le Casette, where part of a Roman road is still visible.
